I just saw this article comparing Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift as “twin flames” because their songs have similar titles, and I had to bring this up with people who truly understand this path.
Because I feel like I’m going a little bit crazy.
While I appreciate pop culture bringing awareness to spiritual concepts, I’m concerned about how casual comparisons between celebrities trivialize what many of us experience as profound soul connections.
Next thing we know, Hollywood is going to start making “twin flame” movies.
Or at least some bastard idea of what they think a twin flame is.
The article points out song title similarities like “Welcome to New York” vs “Nuevayol” or “August” vs “Agosto” as evidence of some cosmic connection. They even use the phrase “they’ve clearly tapped into the same creative force” - which feels like such a simplification of what twin flames actually experience.
A few coincidences in common terms does not make a spiritual awakening or a soul contract.
Don’t get me wrong - I love both artists and I really don’t like the idea of anyone gatekeeping a spiritual journey.
But come on.
There’s something… uncomfortable about seeing our deep spiritual journey reduced to marketing narratives and fan theories about celebrities who likely have never met beyond a Grammy ceremony photo op.
Has anyone else noticed how twin flame terminology is being commercialized? How do you feel when you see sacred concepts like this being used to sell music, generate clicks, or create artificial connections between public figures?
For those of us walking this challenging path of recognition, healing, and reunion, does it feel diminishing to see our experiences compared to song title coincidences and chart competitions?
If they genuinely think they are twin flames… I wish them the best on the journey but from what I can see, it’s just a news site using the “twin flame” term for clicks.
They’re going to cause some harm with that.
In the same way, nobody actually knows what a “soulmate” is now. We’ve all just seen it in movies and use it as a catch-all term for anything from a crush to a spouse.
The more the media misuses the term, the more people will misunderstand what it is.
Already people are quick to call a crush or relationship their “twin flame” because they don’t really know what it means.
All I can say - with respect - is if Taylor Swift is a genuine “twin flame” then she’s got a hell of a lot of karma to be working on given the large amount of songs she’s written bitching about the guys she dumped or who dumped her! Also we have to do a lot of work on our egos and Taylor’s ego is rather colossal!
It is worrying because “Swifties” tend to be pretty maniacal and devoted and if they buy into the twin flame thing, they’re gonna start demanding and wondering who/where their twins are, so it will give them expectations and sadly, most of them are in for guaranteed disappointment and disillusionment because they’ll be chasing something that doesn’t exist for them. REAL twin flames are the minority. Don’t get me wrong, I wish everybody to find the Love they deserve and if they have a genuine twin… nice, except as we all know here, it’s way more complex and involved than the “average” love most get to experience and live with.
I feel you @Ellasi. It’s normal to feel this way when something we care deeply about becomes twisted and degraded beyond belief. Please take comfort knowing that you are not alone in your sentiment!
Heck, @Chris even pointed out a marijuana strain called “twin flames” in a different thread.
Its nothing short of absurdity as far as I’m concerned.
Its even gotten to the point where the twin flame couple at my local metaphysical shop, who perform readings and give relationship advice, have renamed their offering to “yin-yang readings”, so as to not get dragged into this mess.
Best thing we can do is to (somehow) try to pick our battles and not get too wound up about things we have no real influence or control over. Despite the fact that stuff like this really makes our blood boil sometimes.
